Publishing Journey

If you are interested in how and why I published Christmas is About Jesus check back here. I will be posting my journey. If there are specific questions you have please email them to mukkkove@kovescove.com.

Beginning the Journey
I wrote a Christmas devotional for my children several years ago. I wanted a resource that would build into our daily lives that Christmas, with all the gifts and trimmings, is about Jesus. I couldn't find quite what I was looking for, so I created Christmas is About Jesus: An Advent Devotional. I made copies for family and showed a few friends. Everyone who saw it encouraged me to publish it. Over the years I looked at different options and always got overwhelmed and did nothing. In the spring of 2007 I decided to search again. I like to call it a divinve internet search. Tate Publishing came up at the top of the list. I went to their site and was very impressed. I contacted them and submitted my manuscript. Three months of waiting told me I could wait longer. Tate contacted me to let me know they liked my work, but they had all the childrens books for that year, so I could either take my manuscript back and try another publisher, or I could be garunteed a spot the next year. I stayed with Tate. In November of 2008 I got and signed my contract.

Even though they had a copy of my origional work, illustrations and all,  I wasn't expecting to hear anything until January 2009. In early December I was surprised to hear that I would hearing from my editor in February. I had to reformat the manuscript so the editor and I could easily communicate about what the final text would be. I was scheduled for production and felt like a real author now that I had "my" editor!
